Brace yourselves, Winter is coming… but don´t panic, we are on the Costa del Sol!”
Anyone who lives here on the Costa del Sol can’t deny the past summer was a whopper; an extended super hot summer into September followed by intense humidity. Our electricity bills are certainly proof of this! But like all things, the end finally came and the temperatures started to drop; we’re sure the collective sigh of reliefs could be heard in Morocco.
It’s hard to believe another summer has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean visitors to the Costa del Sol will be left with nothing to do, quite the opposite in fact – winter in the South of Spain is a perfect time to enjoy all the great things that you can´t do when it is too hot!
Top things to do on the Costa del Sol in winter
This time of year is a favourite at Marbella Homes. Besides cool weather, property sales tend to rise as well, thanks to our amazing summers and holiday makers realising what a great idea it is to buy a property in Marbella. The weather, although still quite warm during the day is fabulous and being out and about is quite enjoyable. Around this time each year, many of the retirees from the UK will also make their way over for their turn at the good life.

Paintball
Paintballing is one of those cool sports where you can “hunt down” your friends in a fun and friendly environment. In the summer months, paintballing is not for the faint hearted, this is because you must wear protective gear, literally from head to toe. This can be quite hot as you can well imagine. But in the autumn, when things are cooler, you can choose from the few popular paintball excursions here on the Costa del Sol. It’s a great day out, and you get your share of physical activity. Many tourists to the Costa del Sol are unaware that you can go to cinemas and watch movies in original versions – called VOSE, it means the movies are playing in English with Spanish subtitles. Most of the major blockbusters around the world will open on the Costa del Sol at the same time, others however will sometimes take up to a month. But, at least it’s something fun to do with the family or for a romantic evening out.

Camping on the Costa del Sol
Usually we tend to skip July and August when it comes to sleeping in a tent under the stars. But, mid-September to December, camping is the perfect excursion. The Costa del Sol is beautiful all year round of course, but in the summer things tend to turn a bit brownish. When autumn finally comes, we begin to notice the greenery return – and on those surrounding mountains, it nothing short of breath taking. Camping at El Chorro lakes for example will leave you stunned with the surrounding beauty. Tarifa is another place where campers travel too. There are literally hundreds of spots where you can pop a tent and just relax under the moonlight.
Finally, believe it or not you can still swim in the Med if you so wish. Granted it’s not as warm as it was, many of the Scandinavians enjoy days at the beach during October and November. It’s a bit tough getting in but once you’re in, the water can be very refreshing.
