The Area of Puerto Banus
Puerto Banús Spain is a marina located in the area of Nueva Andalucía, on south westerly end of the “Golden Mile” of Marbella. It was completed in May 1970 by José Banús, a local property developer, as a luxury marina, with 915 berths and a shopping complex. Puerto Banus Spain, has since become one of the largest social hubs on the Costa del Sol, with 5 + million annual visitors. The back drop view to Puerto Banus, Spain is complemented by the well known mountain of La Concha.
The port was developed in the typical Mediterranean architectural style and consist of apartments, shops, restaurants and bars overlooking the marina. It is famous for its luxury yachts, expensive designer shops and its extravagant life style for the very rich and famous, who parade along the promenade in their Ferraris, Bentleys and Lamborghinis.
Buying a Property in Puerto Banus
The lavish opening of the complex in May 1970 was attended by, amongst others, the Aga Khan, film director Roman Polanski, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, Dr. Christiaan Barnard (pioneer of the heart transplant), and Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco. A young Julio Iglesias was hired to sing for the guests and three hundred waiters from Seville served 22 kilos of beluga caviar to 1700 guests.
The area that lies behind the marina has over the last 15 years been completely developed with apartments and shopping complexes to create it into the most bustling area of the Costa del Sol.
